New President term 2012-2013

President Amy Siew Chok Inn, ACS, CL

I like to thank the nominating committee for their vote of confidence in proposing to elect me as the next term President for our club. Thanks to fellow toastmasters for their encouragements and support. With this i accept in good faith.

To the newly elected exco committee members, my thanks and appreciations for joining me. With your co-operation and experience we can work towards a smooth and fruitful term. As this is a learning club, new members taking up roles will be able to hone your leadership skills. I am too, learning together with you.

In line with Presidents Kay's theme, she has done a very good job in unleashing your potentials. Our club has won many awards, the credits and prestige are shared by all members.

This new term i like to enhance her good effort with this theme "SOAR TO GREATER HEIGHTS"

This can be a reality if we put our efforts and resources towards this goal.

 Thank you

Annual Convention : Power Up Your Passion

The Annual Convention held on 27 April to 29 April 2012 in Sunday Pyramid Convention Centre was a blast with about 400 Toastmasters Members present.

The Convention started off with the District Exco Meeting chaired by DG Sue Chan and on her right is the Dist Parlimentarian Low Yat Seow to ensure the meeting run smoothly. This meeting would involved all the District 51 Officers, Div Governors and Area Governors. If you are holding any of this post you are required to attend to have a mojority quorum to start off the meeting.

After lunch, is the District Council Meeting attended by all the District 51 Officers, Div Governors, Area Governors, Club Presidents and Club Vice President of Education. In this meeting, members can bid for the any of the District post by getting a member to propose your name. In the above, our present Dist 51 Treasurer Johnson Tang is bidding for Lieut Gov of Marketing with Wendy. It is at this meeting too that Club members can air their grievences through Club Presidents and VPEs.

I took a picture with Plenary Speaker Dana LaMon and Arlene (US citizen teaching in China). Dana LaMon was the TI International Champion in 1992 and the Organiser could not get a sponsor for his air-ticket and he paid his own air-ticket to join us in this convention. How sweet of him and you can always go to his wedsite to know more about him.

The openning ceremony performance by Students Cheer Leaders was nicely executed and the confidence displayed here was awesome. It showed a high degree of trust for one another so that the 4 students up in the air would not land on the stage!
Key note address by International Director Christine Tembligue from Philiphines. Pint size lady but has big vision. She is on her way up to be the International President. In a few years time she will meet her goal. I don't know what I did to my camera, at this juncture the picturs are not clear.

The screening of the top 7 videos and the 2 shots of PD Toastmasters Club entree while the video was running. There were some delegates who told me that most notable feature of the video is founder Tan Lai Hock's face at the end of the video.

Dana LaMon DTM giving his speech in the plenary session.
Sheila Wong DTM during her plenary session. Maimunah Natasha DTM from Indonesia during the plenary session.

4.30 pm to 6.30 pm was free time so I attended the Bahasa Malaysia session. It was a debate and the debaters were picked/volunteered on the title: 'Pendidikan sex harus diajar di sekolah' It was a fun and funny session with the audience laughing most of the time. I need to wipe my tear, not because I was sad, but the subject matter put forth by the debaters were funny.
PD Toastmasters club gained the Silver award for achiving 7 DCP points.
PD Toastmasters Club's video won the 3rd price. Vallie our VPPR cum video director and editor received the award from DPRO Yoon Peng Yew.
