Meeting #2 on 23rd July 2013, RSUC

It was a full house of members with two guests for the night, a good sign of renewed interest in Club meetings. The TOE (TM Ong Guan Leong), introduced the revamped Powerpoint slides which is planned as a 'standard' for future TOEs to use. The set can also be used in introducing Toastmasters and the Club in any future promotional events.

Table topics then got off with our new TM Dilaasha (Table Topics Master) requiring our TMs to retrogress to various interesting topics like 'My First Date', 'My First Job' which turned into My One and Only Job. No secrets were revealed by TM Chua EC in 'My Wedding Day' while Dr Subhassh captivated the audience recollecting 'My First Good Friend'.

The much welcomed break . . . replenish, socialise, networking

Message from your VPE

Having read the Toastmaster magazine in the June 2013 issue in which our International President, John Lau DTM in his message said, "Sharing information about goal progress, while accepting the truth, helps us learn, unlearn and relearn."

This is probably why the new committee have nominated me to carry out the task of helping our members to achieve their goals and make our club achieve excellence. Both these goals will be unattainable if we do not have your support. We need your co-operation to share with us how you would want to achieve your goals.

I will be approaching you for information that will enable me to draw up a chart that will assist our club to pinpoint your present position of your achievements and the steps you need to take to achieve your next goal. Remember that each time you take a role or do an assignment, constructive feedback helps you to enhance your performance the next time. Above all, make your Toastmastering meeting exciting and enjoyable!

TLI on 13th July 2013

Six of the Exco attended the first TLI organised by the Division. This is part of the training that one gets when one serves in the Exco. It was a BIG affair with much boisterous applause and high energy all round but much too little time for attendees to deliberate. However we got back the material which is of benefit for us to consider in greater depth; this will help us in working towards improving ourselves as club officials as well as heading the club to its goals.

Meeting #1 on 9th July 2013

The start of a new journey began with incoming President TM Chua Eu Chieh unveiling the slogan of "Together We Grow" and pointing out that individual needs and club needs may not always match in all aspects. However, members needs are paramount and all should explore how each of us can fit our individual needs to help the club achieve its goals too.

Our TOE (Toastmaster of the Evening), TM Stepehn Francis then very ably and smoothly took each of us through our needs. Some of these ranged from, "I want to see the Club continue on its strong footing"; "I want to grow in my communication and leaderskills, get out from my comfort zone;" "Enjoy the Toastmastering experience;" "Contribute back to the club;" and a host more.

This was followed by the Table Topics session, helmed by our IPP, TM Amy Siew.

Four Project speeches were delivered, ranging from the inspirational, humorous, philosophical and storytelling of historical personage/event. All were listened to raptly by the audience and evaluated afterwards.

Winners for the night were recognised through these awards.

The General Evaluator, TM Tan Lai Hock summed up the night's proceedings, highlighting some salient points for improvement. Role players must be "properly attired" in keeping with our professional image. Table topics should be short and to the point.

The President closed the meeting by congratulating TM Tan Ban Yeow for being recognised in the 1+1 (member get member) by Toastmasters International and TM Ong Guan Leong for successfully completing his final project for the Advanced Communicator Bronze series.

Power of Words - it works!

Watch this video to see how words and how they are written communicate the desired message and its effect on the reader. We all can learn and apply in our speeches too.
