DTM Robert Tan made Port Dickson Toastmasters Club (PDTMC) proud by taking home two trophies for emerging as the 1st Runners-up at the recent Area C2 Humorous Speech and Speech Evaluation Contests!
Both contests were held back-to-back at the IEM Toastmasters Club’s venue at IEM Building, PJ State on the 29th of September. In the first contest, Robert tickled the audience pink when he narrated on his personal fear of elavators. Alas, he was pitted against very eloquent speakers from 3 other clubs and was pipped at the post by TM Siew Chang Wei from the IME Toastmasters Club.
In the second contest, Robert was up against 2 other evaluators and all of them gave an evaluation of a speech by TM Vincent Chow, who tried to convince the audience to switch to eating organic chickens. Once again, Robert delivered a very polished performance as an evaluator, but the judges decided that Tan Keng Waye, also from IME Toastmasters Club, had an edge over the others.
This is an achievement nonetheless for DTM Robert Tan. So, to DTM Robert Tan – congratulations!
Six of us from PDTMC who were there to listen to your speeches felt that you certainly deserved a better placing; however, such is the nature of speech contests where judging can become very subjective.
Let’s put this behind us, and look ahead to the upcoming contests! We hope that this experience will spur you on to greater heights!
